Jammu and Kashmir CM Stresses on Fiscal Discipline Ahead of Budget Session
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has underscored the importance of fiscal discipline as the government gears up for the upcoming budget session of the J&K Legislative Assembly. In a series of pre-budget consultations with key departments, the chief minister directed officials to submit well-structured and need-based proposals aligned with the government’s development roadmap.
During the consultations, which began on Tuesday and are set to conclude on Thursday, Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, focused on assessing sectoral priorities, development needs, and financial requirements. The budget session of the Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on February 2.
Emphasizing the need for realistic and outcome-oriented proposals grounded in fiscal discipline, the chief minister chaired detailed meetings with various departments including social welfare, health, education, public works, mining, industries, and labor. He highlighted the significance of timely project completion, transparent implementation, and efficient public service delivery.
Omar Abdullah stressed that the upcoming budget should mirror the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on inclusive growth, balanced regional development, and sustainable economic progress. The consultations also involved a review of ongoing projects, sector-wise performance, fund utilization, and future requirements.
Furthermore, the chief minister urged departments to adopt a people-centric and performance-driven approach, prioritizing areas such as healthcare, education, social security, road connectivity, industrial growth, and youth employment. The consultations aim to finalize a comprehensive, growth-oriented, and people-friendly budget for the Union Territory.
