Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Junior Engineer for Bribery in Jammu and Kashmir
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir recently made headlines after trapping and arresting a Junior Engineer (JE) who was serving as a Technical Assistant in the BDO Office in Mahore, District Reasi. The JE was apprehended for demanding and accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 8,000.
According to the Bureau, the arrested official had three separate corruption cases already registered against him. In a statement released to the media, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau filed a case FIR No. 03/2026 U/S 07 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at PS ACB Udhampur against the public servant, identified as Rahul Gandotra, the JE posted as TA in BDO Office Gulabgarh Mahore District Reasi, for his involvement in bribery.
The statement revealed that the accused had demanded the bribe from a complainant for the preparation of a bill related to RDD work. When the complainant refused to pay the bribe, he sought the intervention of the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the accused public servant.
Following a discreet verification, the ACB confirmed the demand for a bribe by the public servant. Subsequently, a trap team was formed, led by a Deputy Superintendent rank officer. The team successfully caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. The JE was arrested on the spot, and the bribe money was recovered from his possession.
Furthermore, a search was conducted at the accused’s residence in Jammu, in the presence of a Magistrate. It was noted that the accused already had three FIRs under the Prevention of Corruption Act registered against him, all under investigation.
