Abhishek Sharma Hospitalized Due to Stomach Infection Ahead of T20 World Cup Match
Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma, known for his flamboyant batting style, has been hospitalized in New Delhi with a stomach infection, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup match against Namibia. The opener has been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the past two days, undergoing tests to determine the cause of his illness.
A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed, “Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now.”
Abhishek’s health setback comes after his early exit from the game against the USA, where he was out for a duck and did not participate further. Sanju Samson replaced him on the field during that match. With the T20 World Cup ongoing, the focus for Team India is not just on the Namibia game but also on the upcoming clash against Pakistan on February 15.
Stomach infections can significantly impact an athlete’s stamina and endurance, raising concerns about Abhishek’s ability to recover in time for future matches. While there is hope for his participation on February 15, preparations are being made to have Samson as a potential replacement should Abhishek not fully recover.
Despite his health condition, Abhishek attended a team dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence but left early, indicating his need for rest and recovery. The Indian team management remains optimistic about his return to the field but is closely monitoring his progress.
