The University of Aberdeen Opens Admissions for Mumbai Campus
The University of Aberdeen, established in 1495 and renowned as one of the oldest and most esteemed centers of learning globally, has announced the commencement of admissions for its Mumbai campus for the September 2026 intake.
Professor Peter Edwards, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, unveiled this development during his visit to Mumbai, where he officially launched the campus site in Powai, marking a significant step towards the campus’s official opening before August 2026.
As part of its launch in India, Professor Edwards introduced the Aberdeen Pioneer Scholarship to assist talented students in accessing academic excellence. This scholarship program offers a tuition fee waiver of Rs. 2 lakh to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students who apply by January 31, 2026, and are accepted for enrollment in September 2026. The scholarship amount will be deducted directly from the tuition fees and specified in the acceptance letter from the university.
Academic Programs Offered
At the undergraduate level, Aberdeen will provide courses following the Scottish four-year degree structure, with two foundational years leading to specialization at the end of the second year. Initial undergraduate programs include BSc Data Science (Hons), BSc Computing Science (Hons), MA Economics (Hons), and MA Business Management (Hons). All programs adhere to the university’s UK academic standards, culminating in students receiving a UK-accredited degree conferred by the University of Aberdeen.
In response to the increasing demand in India for specialized technical skills, the university will introduce a one-year MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MBA program. With AI projected to contribute $1.7 trillion to the Indian economy by 2035, the AI program aims to equip graduates with skills for the future.
The one-year MBA is tailored for professionals with a minimum of two years of work experience, offering an accelerated path to leadership development. One-year MBA programs are relatively uncommon in India, catering to working professionals seeking shorter, career-focused postgraduate options.
During his visit, Professor Edwards led a leadership roundtable discussing the impact of artificial intelligence on early-career talent, bringing together industry leaders to explore how universities and employers can better prepare graduates for an AI-driven work environment.
In line with the University of Aberdeen’s commitment to enhancing industry-academia collaboration in India, strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. These partnerships aim to foster entrepreneurial talent, promote preventive health technologies, support AI-powered investment platforms, and enable students from low-income backgrounds to access quality education at the University of Aberdeen in Mumbai.
Professor Peter Edwards expressed the university’s dedication to delivering top-tier education, fostering global engagement, and supporting India’s dynamic talent ecosystem. The collaboration with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) signifies a crucial step towards establishing the university’s campus at the proposed Educity, strengthening the long-term partnership with India.
Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India at the British Council, commended the University of Aberdeen for launching admissions for its Mumbai campus, aligning with the UK-India Vision 2035 and the National Education Policy 2020. The establishment of international campuses will enhance access to globally recognized education, bolster academic partnerships, and create opportunities for students and educators.
Harjinder Kang, British Deputy High Commissioner to Western India and His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to South Asia, emphasized that Aberdeen’s opening of its first Indian campus in Mumbai exemplifies the India-UK Vision 2035, expanding access to UK degrees and equipping young individuals with skills in AI, data, and business.
Ranked 18th in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2026, listed in the Top 250 globally in The World University Rankings 2026, and ranked 83rd for sustainability worldwide by QS 2026, the University of Aberdeen brings over five centuries of academic excellence, five Nobel laureates, and an EQUIS-accredited business school to India’s evolving higher education landscape.
