Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Grateful for Reopening of Tourist Destinations
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed his gratitude towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision to reopen 14 tourist destinations in the Union Territory. These destinations had been closed since April last year following the Pahalgam terror attack. Abdullah had discussions with the Home Minister regarding the reopening of these areas, emphasizing that there was no benefit in keeping them closed. He appreciated Shah’s assurance and the subsequent issuance of orders to reopen the tourist spots.
The closure of these tourist destinations had resulted in losses for the local people. Abdullah hopes that with the reopening, visitors will once again flock to these beautiful locations. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who oversees the security arrangements in the region, recently ordered the reopening of 11 tourist spots in Kashmir and three in the Jammu region. These places were among the 80 locations that had been shut down after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Controversial Remarks and Allegations
In response to controversial remarks made by BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa, Abdullah stated that the truth had come to light. He mentioned that a case had been filed against Randhawa for allegedly occupying government land. Abdullah criticized BJP leaders, highlighting a disparity between their words and actions.
He pointed out an instance where a BJP-nominated Rajya Sabha member from Jammu and Kashmir allegedly spent a majority of development funds in Uttar Pradesh instead of the designated region. Abdullah raised concerns about the representative’s lack of focus on the local area.
Efforts During Ramzan and Regularization of Daily Wagers
Regarding electricity supply during the month of Ramzan, Abdullah mentioned plans to review all aspects and arrangements in an upcoming meeting. He assured that efforts would be made to minimize difficulties faced by the public during the holy month.
Addressing protests by daily wagers seeking regularization, Abdullah emphasized that the government had announced plans for their regularization through a scheduled process. He discouraged street protests, urging individuals not to be swayed by political manipulation. Abdullah urged protesters to communicate their concerns peacefully, assuring them of the regularization process in a time-bound manner.
