Police Apprehend Two Pakistani Nationals Who Escaped from Observation Home in Jammu
On February 16, two Pakistani nationals, along with a local gangster, managed to escape from the R S Pura Observation Home in Jammu after assaulting and injuring two police personnel on duty. The incident took place on Monday evening, prompting a manhunt to locate the third inmate who was still at large.
The escapees were identified as Karanjeet Singh alias Gugga, a local gangster, and two Pakistani nationals – Ahsan Anwar and Mohd Sanaullah. Ahsan Anwar hails from Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan, while Mohd Sanaullah is from Basti Jawewala, Punjab, Pakistan. The trio staged a fake fight, attacked the police personnel, and fled from the Observation Home.
Police officers SPO Vinay Choudhary and Head Constable Praveen Kumar sustained injuries while trying to intervene in the altercation. Despite the lack of an official statement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, reports indicate that the escapees were apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) teams of Haryana Police at the Ambala railway premises and handed over to the JKP.
Following the escape, a high alert was issued, and neighboring states were notified to assist in the apprehension of the fugitives. Additionally, six police personnel were suspended in connection with the incident. SSP Jammu Joginder Singh has promised an inquiry and appropriate action if negligence or involvement of police personnel is proven.
It was reported that the escapees not only assaulted the police personnel but also fired a pistol to aid in their escape. A case was registered at the R S Pura Police Station, and special teams were formed to conduct raids and capture the fugitives.
The incident highlights the need for enhanced security measures in observation homes to prevent such escapes in the future.
