Allegations Against BJP MP for Misusing Constituency Development Funds
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised concerns over the utilization of Constituency Development Funds by a Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir. He accused the MP of spending a significant portion of the funds in Uttar Pradesh instead of focusing on the development of his own constituency in the Union Territory.
Abdullah, addressing reporters in Srinagar, highlighted the case of (Ghulam Ali) Khatana, who was nominated to Parliament by the BJP. It was revealed that Khatana allocated more than 90 percent of his CDF allocation to projects in Uttar Pradesh, despite being a representative of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports from the news agency Kashmir News Trust, Abdullah emphasized the contradiction in Khatana’s actions, considering his affiliation with Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out that although Khatana hails from the Union Territory and has official accommodation there, he chose to prioritize development projects in another state.
The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for its inconsistent approach, stating that while the party talks about supporting Kashmir, their actions do not align with their words. He accused the BJP of failing to prioritize the developmental needs of Jammu and Kashmir, especially when it comes to utilizing funds for local infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
Abdullah stressed the importance of elected representatives focusing on the development of their own constituencies, particularly when allocated funds are intended to support local projects. He called for a more dedicated approach from MPs representing the Union Territory, urging them to prioritize the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir over other regions.
It is essential for public representatives to act in the best interests of their constituents and ensure that allocated funds are utilized effectively for the development of the region. The allegations against the BJP MP highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds for the benefit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
