Indian Postgraduate Student Found Dead in the US
New York, Feb 15: The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has confirmed the tragic news of the death of a 22-year-old Indian postgraduate student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who had been reported missing in the US less than a week ago. Sreenivasaiah, a student at the University of California, Berkeley, and hailing from Karnataka, was found deceased after he went missing on Monday.
The Indian Consulate in San Francisco released a statement on Saturday (local time) confirming the recovery of Sreenivasaiah’s body. The consulate expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident and extended condolences to his family. They assured to provide all necessary assistance to the family, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of his remains to India.
According to reports, Sreenivasaiah was enrolled in the Master of Science program at the University of California, Berkeley. His backpack, containing his passport and laptop, was discovered on a doorstep in the Park Hills neighborhood, as reported by The Berkeley Scanner news portal.
Prior to the confirmation of his death, local police had appealed to the public for any information regarding Sreenivasaiah’s whereabouts. The Indian Consulate stated that their consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will provide necessary support with all formalities and services.
