Protests in Jammu as Congress Activists Detained
On February 14, a significant gathering of Congress activists, including prominent leaders like AICC General Secretary Syed Naseer Hussain and Pradesh Congress Chief Tariq Hameed Karra, faced detainment by police in Jammu. The authorities intervened as the activists initiated a march towards Lok Bhawan, resulting in the halt of their proposed movement.
The demonstration, part of the ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ campaign advocating for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, also aimed to address concerns regarding the ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram.’
Among those detained were Hussain, Karra, AICC General Secretary G A Mir, Working President Raman Bhalla, and AICC Secretary Pargat Singh, as confirmed by Congress chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma.
Sharma expressed disapproval of the police’s actions, emphasizing that the Congress intended a peaceful march to raise awareness about public welfare issues. However, the activists were swiftly apprehended and taken to the district police lines in police vehicles.
