The Excitement Continues: Khelo India Winter Games Set to Thrill in Gulmarg
The winter sports fever is set to grip Gulmarg as the second leg of the prestigious Khelo India Winter Games is all set to kick off from February 23 to 26. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed that nearly 400 athletes will compete in this edition, continuing the legacy of the Games after a successful first leg in Ladakh from January 20 to 26.
Gulmarg, known for its picturesque snow-covered landscapes, will witness thrilling competitions across various disciplines, with the Indian Army aiming to defend its championship title.
“Following the Winter Olympics, the timing couldn’t be better for the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg,” Mandaviya expressed in a statement. “After the resounding success in Leh, we anticipate the same level of enthusiasm in Jammu and Kashmir as athletes take on the natural elements and challenging terrains.”
This edition at Gulmarg will showcase four medal disciplines, including Ski Mountaineering, Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing (Cross-Country), and Snowboarding, with Alpine Skiing expected to attract the highest number of participants.
Reflecting on the previous season, the Indian Army clinched the top spot in the team standings with an impressive tally of 18 medals, followed by Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Haryana emerged as the frontrunner in the Ladakh leg this year, securing four gold medals through its talented figure and ice skaters, with Ladakh, Maharashtra, and Telangana closely behind.
