New Delhi- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce on-screen marking (OSM) for the evaluation of Class 12 answer books starting from the upcoming academic year. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in the evaluation process. However, the evaluation of Class 10 answer books will continue to be conducted in the traditional physical mode.
According to CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the adoption of OSM for Class 12 answer book evaluation will streamline coordination, reduce manual errors, and ensure a faster evaluation process with broader teacher participation. This digital marking system will also eliminate the need for post-result verification of marks and reduce the manpower required for the evaluation process.
Bhardwaj emphasized the environmental sustainability of digital marking and its benefits in terms of teacher involvement and efficient evaluation. Schools are required to provide computer labs with specific system requirements, a reliable internet connection, and uninterrupted power supply for the evaluation process.
“Non-compliance with the board’s guidelines regarding OSM implementation will be considered an attempt to disrupt the evaluation process, and such schools may face consequences, including the non-declaration of results,” Bhardwaj stated.
CBSE conducts annual board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 students in India and 26 other countries, serving approximately 46 lakh students.
