Srinagar Night Temperatures Drop in Gulmarg and Pahalgam Tourist Resorts
In Kashmir, the night temperatures in the popular tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam experienced a significant drop below freezing point, while the rest of the valley enjoyed relatively warmer weather, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
Gulmarg, known for its skiing facilities in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius, which marked a decrease of 2.7 degrees compared to the previous night. Similarly, Pahalgam, a scenic tourist destination in south Kashmir serving as the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, witnessed a temperature drop of 5 degrees, settling at minus 5.6 degrees Celsius from the previous minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.0 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, which was notably 3.6 degrees above the seasonal average.
Other areas in the valley also experienced varying minimum temperatures, with Qazigund settling at 1.0 degrees, Kokernag recording a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, and Kupwara’s minimum temperature at 1.6 degrees Celsius.
Following the end of ‘Chillai Kalan’, the coldest period lasting 40 days in Kashmir, the minimum temperatures in Srinagar have been gradually increasing. This transition signals the beginning of ‘Chillai Khurd’, a 20-day period after ‘Chillai Kalan’. Subsequently, the region will enter the ‘Chillai Bachha’, a 10-day phase known as the ‘baby cold’ period.
This shift in temperatures reflects the changing seasons in Kashmir, with the onset of slightly milder weather after the harsh winter period. Residents and tourists alike can expect a gradual increase in temperatures as the region moves towards a more moderate climate.
