Srinagar- The Jammu division has emerged as the frontrunner in issuing Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates in Jammu and Kashmir, surpassing the figures in the Kashmir Valley by a significant margin. Over the past two years, a total of 24,545 EWS certificates have been granted in the Jammu division, compared to just 2,013 certificates in the Kashmir Valley.
According to government data, a total of 26,558 EWS certificates have been issued across the Union Territory, with the majority being concentrated in the Jammu division. District-wise statistics reveal that Kathua leads the pack with 6,972 certificates, followed by Jammu district with 5,881 and Samba with 4,436. In contrast, the Kashmir division’s numbers are notably lower, with Anantnag recording the highest count at 483 certificates, followed by Kulgam with 390 and Baramulla with 332.
The government has emphasized that all EWS certificate applications undergo stringent scrutiny in accordance with the rules and guidelines set forth. It has clarified that rejections are based solely on applicants failing to meet the eligibility criteria outlined in SRO 518 of 2019. Additionally, cases involving shared residential property with married siblings or other legal shareholders are meticulously evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with denials occurring only when the stipulated requirements are not met.
