Development of Playfields and Sports Infrastructure in Chanapora Constituency
In a significant move towards enhancing sports facilities in the region, an amount of Rs 71.183 lakh has been allocated for the development and maintenance of playfields and sports infrastructure in Chanapora Constituency for the fiscal year 2025-26. This funding was announced by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, during a session in the House in response to a query raised by Legislator Mushtaq Guroo.
According to an official statement released by the minister, a volleyball court with fencing and drainage systems is currently under construction at Nowgam, with a total budget of Rs. 20 lakh. Of this amount, Rs. 11.459 lakh has already been utilized. Additionally, Rs 13.64 lakh have been allocated for the installation of chain-link fencing around the existing synthetic volleyball court and the ZPEO office, as well as the construction of the main gate at the Nowgam Playfield. Out of this allotment, Rs 12.36 lakh have already been spent.
Minister Sharma mentioned that the remaining funds will be used for the construction of the ZPEO office at Nowgam Srinagar. He also assured that detailed project reports (DPRs) for other projects aimed at upgrading sports infrastructure in the constituency are ready and will be submitted to the relevant authorities shortly.

During the discussion, Minister Sharma highlighted the government’s commitment to further improving sports facilities in Chanapora Constituency. The upcoming projects are expected to enhance the overall sports infrastructure, providing better opportunities for budding athletes and sports enthusiasts in the region.
