Srinagar Observes Shab-e-Baraat with Devotion
The night of forgiveness, known as Shab-e-Baraat, was celebrated with traditional fervor and devotion across mosques and shrines in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday night. This sacred occasion marks a time for special prayers and seeking forgiveness from Allah.
One notable absence was the night-long prayers at Jama Masjid in Nowhatta, as the historic mosque was closed by authorities and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest. Despite this, the spirit of Shab-e-Baraat was alive in other parts of the valley.
Shab-e-Baraat falls two weeks before the beginning of Ramzan, the holy month of fasting. It is a time for reflection, prayer, and seeking blessings. Special prayers were offered in various locations to commemorate the occasion.
Many devotees took the opportunity to visit the graves of their ancestors, where they lit candles as a symbol of remembrance and reverence. This act of paying respect to those who have passed is a deeply ingrained tradition in the Kashmiri culture.
