Union Budget 2026: Jammu Receives Additional Rs 2,000 Crore Allocation for Development
The recently announced Union Budget 2026 has been hailed as a significant step towards building a developed India, with a particular focus on the development of Jammu and Kashmir. According to Arun Gupta, President of the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI), the additional allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for Jammu and Kashmir reflects the Union government’s commitment to the region’s growth.
Gupta emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir has been under special scrutiny by the Union Government, and the increased funding is a clear indication of their dedication to the Union Territory’s progress. He noted that the budget covers a wide range of sectors, including industry, MSMEs, semiconductors, education, defense, agriculture, and sports, ensuring a balanced approach to economic growth.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a total allocation of Rs 43,290.29 crore for Jammu and Kashmir in the Budget, a significant increase from the previous financial year. Gupta described the budget as balanced and stressed the importance of effective implementation at the state level to ensure that the benefits reach all sectors of the population.
Looking ahead, Gupta expressed optimism about the future development of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the upcoming budget session and the government’s clear focus on the region’s growth. He called for a special approach from the Union Government to accelerate development in Jammu and Kashmir, noting that the increased allocation signifies a strong commitment to the region’s progress.
In response to concerns about potential misuse of funds, Gupta reassured that the government’s approach is transparent and focused. He referenced Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s emphasis on supporting existing industries and ensuring their viability, as well as the government’s commitment to sectors like tourism and education.
Gupta concluded by affirming the JCCI’s dedication to working across all sectors to ensure comprehensive development in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the importance of sincerity and inclusivity in the region’s growth, highlighting the government’s efforts to address the needs of all stakeholders.
