US President Donald Trump Welcomes China and India to Buy Venezuelan Oil
During a recent press briefing aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump expressed his openness to China and India purchasing Venezuelan oil. He mentioned that China is “welcome” to engage in oil deals with Venezuela, while India has already finalized a deal to buy Venezuelan oil, shifting away from purchasing it from Iran.
Trump highlighted the significance of these agreements by stating, “We’ve already made a deal. India is coming in, and they’re going to be buying Venezuelan oil as opposed to buying it from Iran. So, we’ve already made the concept of the deal.”
While India has not responded to Trump’s comments yet, the President also revealed that Venezuela had offered Washington “50 million barrels of oil” worth USD 5.2 billion, which he accepted. This deal was discussed during a press conference regarding the renaming of Southern Boulevard to Donald Trump Boulevard.
Commenting on the relationship with the Venezuelan interim government, Trump expressed satisfaction, stating, “We’ve had a great relationship with the people who are currently the Interim President and everybody else. A lot of pressure has been released.”
After the US captured former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a military operation, Trump emphasized the need for Washington to have “total access to the oil and to other things in their country” during the transition period.
Furthermore, Trump’s remarks align with a recent report by New York-based news outlet Semafor, indicating that the US has completed its first sale of Venezuelan oil valued at USD 500 million. The revenue from these oil sales is currently held in bank accounts controlled by the US government, with a primary account located in Qatar.
