The Threat of Envy and Black Magic in Kashmir: A Spiritual Plague

By Humaira Nisar
The once peaceful land of Kashmir now finds itself shrouded in darkness, with every home and heart affected by the insidious forces of envy and black magic.
These malevolent forces have twisted lives, shattered bonds, and replaced trust with fear, creating a spiritual epidemic that consumes faith, ignites malice, and poisons relationships.
Envy, a powerful emotion in Islam, acts as a hidden fire that drives individuals to covet the blessings bestowed upon others by Allah. It transforms into malice, leading to cruel words, secret schemes, social manipulation, and in some cases, the sinister path of black magic.
Black magic itself stems from envy, hatred, and resentment, thriving on jealousy towards those who excel in life, marriage, wealth, education, or honor.
Allah’s warning in Surah al-Falaq is clear: believers must seek protection from the malevolent intentions of the envious (Quran 113:5).
This divine command emphasizes the grave danger posed by envy. If it were a minor issue, such protection would not be necessary. Envy not only harms the envied but also consumes the envier, leaving a heart restless and discontent with Allah’s decree.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, likened envy to a destructive force that engulfs good deeds like fire consumes wood. Even a life dedicated to prayer and charity cannot withstand the corrosive effects of envy. The purity of the heart is the true measure of spiritual success.
The Prophet further admonished believers to avoid envy, hatred, grudges, and discord, highlighting the toxic nature of these emotions.
Envy, hatred, and grudges intertwine to create a venomous cycle that corrodes familial, friendly, and societal bonds, leaving behind a trail of shattered peace, fractured trust, and spiritual decay.
Of particular concern is the connection to black magic, often born from deep-seated envy and longstanding grudges. It leads individuals down forbidden paths, forsaking Allah’s guidance for destructive practices that harm both themselves and others.
Islam unequivocally condemns black magic as a grave sin and an act of disbelief when it relies on anything other than Allah. Those who engage in such practices are warned of the consequences, with no share in the Hereafter (Quran 2:102).
Envy that culminates in such actions traps individuals in moral and spiritual ruin unless genuine repentance is sought.
The Prophet emphasized the dangers of black magic, malice, and grudges, affirming that hearts filled with hatred and envy cannot claim closeness to Allah or spiritual success.
True triumph, whether in this life or the hereafter, remains elusive when the soul is poisoned by negativity.
Kashmir, a land steeped in blessings and sacred history, struggles to rise above the shadows of envy and malice that threaten to overshadow its unity and prosperity.
Ignoring these sins only serves to further fracture families, erode trust, and corrode the fabric of society.
Islam provides a remedy through contentment with Allah’s decree, offering prayers for others, seeking refuge from envy, and replacing jealousy with gratitude and goodwill. Elevation comes through faith, moral uprightness, and ethical conduct.
No society can flourish when envy, grudges, and malice take root in its heart.
Kashmir’s destiny teeters between darkness and dawn, awaiting a transformation fueled by spiritual enlightenment and unity.
