Honoring the Legacy of Shri Ghulam Abbas: A Distinguished Career in Government Communication
Jammu: A farewell function was recently held at the Amar Singh Club to bid adieu to Director Ghulam Abbas, who retired after an illustrious career spanning over 28 years in government communication. The event, organized by the officers and staff of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office Jammu, was a tribute to his remarkable contributions in the field of media management and public information dissemination.
Throughout his tenure as the Director of CBC J&K and Ladakh, Shri Ghulam Abbas displayed visionary leadership and administrative prowess, effectively implementing national communication policies and enhancing government outreach in the region.
As a senior officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), Shri Ghulam Abbas has served the Government of India in various key roles across organizations such as CBC, Press Information Bureau (PIB), and All India Radio (AIR). He is renowned for his strategic leadership, professional integrity, and credibility-driven communication.
Speakers at the farewell function fondly reminisced about their experiences working with Shri Abbas, highlighting his calm leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to public service communication, especially in challenging environments. Colleagues shared personal anecdotes, emphasizing the respect and warmth he commanded within the organization.
The event was attended by Deputy Director Ms. Ayushi Puri, Senior Accounts Officer Shri Rajesh Malik, Administrative Officer Shri O.P. Mauriya, and other officers and staff members of CBC’s Regional Office Jammu, who gathered to express their gratitude and affection for the outgoing Director.
Shri Ghulam Abbas’s tenure in CBC J&K and Ladakh was marked by his commitment to extending government communication to remote areas. Under his guidance, CBC organized awareness programs on government schemes in Turtuk, Ladakh, and Marwah, Kishtwar district, significantly strengthening grassroots outreach.
Earlier in 2022, Shri Abbas held the additional charge of Joint Director, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Jammu, where he managed media coordination and enhanced mechanisms for disseminating official information across various platforms.
From 2010 to 2022, he served in various capacities at PIB Regional Office Srinagar, playing a pivotal role in communication during sensitive periods and ensuring public confidence.
Shri Abbas’s contributions extend beyond his core responsibilities, including his involvement in national assignments such as Hajj operations in Jeddah and serving on the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee during elections in J&K.
Shri Ghulam Abbas leaves behind a legacy of institutional leadership, editorial integrity, and dedication to public service communication, significantly contributing to government outreach and media governance.
