Indian Cricket Captain Surya Kumar Yadav Climbs to Seventh Position in Latest ICC T20I Rankings
On January 28, it was announced that Indian cricket team’s captain Surya Kumar Yadav has made a significant jump in the latest ICC T20I rankings, securing the seventh position. This achievement comes after Yadav’s exceptional performance in the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where India currently leads by 3-0.
Yadav, who had been facing challenges in the shortest format of the game, broke through with a match-winning innings of 82 runs in the second match. This innings also marked the end of his 468-day half-century drought. He continued his stellar form in the following match, scoring 57 runs off just 26 balls.
Other Notable Performances in the Rankings
India’s opener Abhishek Sharma further solidified his position at the top of the rankings with a remarkable 68-run innings in the third T20I. With 929 points, Sharma has extended his lead at the top by 80 rating points.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah also made strides in the rankings, moving up four places to claim the 13th spot in the bowlers’ ranking after his impressive performance against the Blackcaps in the third T20I. Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy maintained his top position in the rankings with a stellar showing against New Zealand.
The all-rounders from India, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, also saw improvements in their rankings after their strong performances in the series. Pandya climbed one spot to reach third place, while Dube surged five places to secure the eleventh position.
Global Rankings Movement
New Zealand’s all-rounder Glenn Phillips made a significant leap of 18 places to claim the 44th spot in the batters ranking following his impressive performances against India. South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram also made a move to the 20th position, while West Indies’ Brandon King climbed 15 places in the rankings.
Furthermore, Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch, and West Indies’ Matthew Forde all made notable progress in the bowlers ranking, moving up by five, eight, and nineteen spots respectively.
Success for England’s Batting Pair
England’s top batting duo of Harry Brook and Joe Root played pivotal roles in their team’s victory in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Brook’s performance propelled him to the 11th position in the rankings, while Root climbed six spots to reach the 17th position in the ODI batters ranking.
