Tragedy Strikes: Small Plane Crash in Colombia Claims 15 Lives
In a devastating incident on January 29th, a small plane tragically crashed in a rural area of Norte de Santander province in northeast Colombia, resulting in the loss of all 15 individuals on board, as confirmed by authorities.
The ill-fated flight was operated by Satena, the state-owned airline, and the crash site was reported by local officials in the community of Curasica. A rescue team was promptly dispatched to assess the situation and provide assistance.
Following the rescue mission, Colombia’s Transportation Ministry issued a statement revealing the heartbreaking news that there were no survivors among the passengers and crew members aboard the aircraft with registration number HK4709.
The flight had departed from Cucuta airport, the capital of the department, en route to Ocana, a mountainous municipality, with an estimated flight duration of 40 minutes. Unfortunately, the aircraft’s last communication with air traffic control occurred shortly after takeoff, according to Satena.
Among the 13 passengers and two crew members on board was Diogenes Quintero, a prominent figure representing victims of the internal armed conflict in the region, as reported by the airline.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with air travel and the importance of stringent safety measures in aviation operations.
