JAMMU Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather Ensures Smooth Coverage for Upcoming Assembly Session
The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, conducted a meeting with media representatives from various news organizations at the Assembly Secretariat in Jammu. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate efficient coverage of the upcoming Assembly session scheduled to commence on February 2, 2026.
The interaction aimed to promote better coordination and ensure accurate and responsible reporting of the House proceedings. Speaker Rather highlighted the crucial role of media in strengthening democratic institutions and keeping the public informed about legislative matters. He emphasized the need for mutual cooperation between the Chair and the media to maintain the dignity and traditions of the House.
Speaker Rather acknowledged the media as a vital bridge between the people and the legislature, ensuring that citizens are aware of governance issues in Jammu and Kashmir. He called for balanced and responsible reporting from media houses during the session, stressing the importance of transparency and public awareness in legislative discussions.
During the meeting, Speaker Rather discussed various concerns of media professionals and identified ways to enhance their working environment. He assured that pending work on the New Legislative Assembly Complex would commence soon and be completed within 18 months. Additionally, the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) would be partially introduced in the upcoming session to promote paperless functioning.
To improve media accessibility, Speaker Rather instructed the installation of sufficient microphones and Public Address Systems (PAS) in the Assembly Hall. He also directed the Hospitality & Protocol department to set up Shamyana for press briefings and interviews by MLAs and Ministers.
Addressing the concerns raised by media representatives, Speaker Rather promised prompt resolution of highlighted issues to create a conducive environment for media professionals. The meeting was attended by key officials including the Director of Information, Nitish Rajora, and Secretary of JKLA, Manoj Kumar Pandita, among others.
