Kashmiri Flavors Take Center Stage at a Gujarat Winter Festival
In the midst of a cold Gujarat evening, a Kashmiri food stall at the Living and Learning Design Centre Winter Festival in Bhuj captured the hearts and taste buds of visitors.
As the temperatures dropped, the aroma of saffron, almonds, cardamom, and other spices wafted through the air, drawing people towards the stall like a magnet.
Visitors were enchanted by the flavors of Kashmir, with Kahwa – a traditional Kashmiri tea – becoming the star attraction of the festival. The cozy atmosphere, coupled with the delightful food offerings, created a sense of warmth and intimacy on the chilly night.
The stall, run by a dedicated team, served up authentic Kashmiri vegetarian dishes that resonated with the visitors. From Chana Badam Chaat to Rumah Soup to decadent desserts like Bamchoonth Halwa and Shahi Tukda, each dish offered a unique taste of Kashmiri cuisine.
Guests couldn’t resist returning for more, indulging in the comforting flavors and engaging with the team to learn more about the ingredients and preparation methods.
One visitor remarked, “These flavors feel calm. Winter feels different with this food,” encapsulating the essence of the experience.
Amidst the bustling festival atmosphere, Kahwa emerged as the crowd favorite, with hundreds of cups poured throughout the evening. People found solace in the warm beverage, savoring each sip as they navigated the festival grounds.
For many attendees, the Kashmiri stall offered a new perspective on Kashmiri cuisine, showcasing a side that goes beyond the typical meat dishes associated with the region. The food not only delighted the taste buds but also provided a sense of comfort and familiarity.
As the festival drew to a close, a Gujarati couple returned for another round of Kahwa, expressing how the experience had brought them closer to Kashmir despite being miles away in Gujarat.
