Government Releases Rs 15.68 Crores for Sports and Physical Education in Schools
Amid significant developments, the government has allocated funds amounting to Rs 15.68 crores for sports and physical education in order to enhance the physical wellness of students in government schools.
According to an official statement, these funds have been disbursed under the centrally sponsored scheme, Samagra Shiksha, focusing on Sports and Physical Education intervention.
The government is actively working towards promoting sports activities in schools while ensuring quality education for children, as stated by the official.
Prior to the commencement of schools after the winter break, provisions have been made for the procurement of sports equipment for the students, facilitating their engagement in sports activities.
Under the Samagra Shiksha program, primary schools will receive Rs 5000, middle schools Rs 10000, and high schools Rs 15000 for the purchase of sports equipment. Higher secondary schools are set to receive Rs 25000 for the same purpose.
The official document highlights the significance of incorporating sports into the school curriculum by providing sports equipment to every school.
While efforts are being made to supply schools with sports equipment, some teachers have expressed concern over the lack of proper playgrounds, especially in elementary-level schools.
This issue extends to high schools in urban areas as well, where the absence of playgrounds hinders students’ participation in sports activities.
A few years back, a video circulated on social media, showing the then Director of School Education Kashmir engaging in a game of cricket with students on a concrete path due to the unavailability of a proper playground at their school.
In conclusion, the government’s allocation of funds for sports and physical education signifies a step towards promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among students, despite challenges related to infrastructure in certain schools.
