Prof Shauq recounted receiving the news of his award early in the morning through a phone call, emphasizing the officials’ familiarity with his literary works and publications. He remarked, “I have always remained dedicated to my writing without seeking recognition. I have simply embraced whatever recognition has come my way.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Prof Shauq has authored a multitude of books in English and Kashmiri, covering various genres such as poetry, history, dictionaries, and grammars. His poetic contributions have garnered international acclaim, further solidifying his reputation as a literary luminary. With a background in science and English, Prof Shauq dedicated over five decades to the preservation and advancement of the Kashmiri language and literature. As a professor at the University of Kashmir for more than thirty years, he imparted his knowledge of Kashmiri literature to countless students and research scholars.
