Kashmir News: Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ Initiative – Analysis

Written By: Capt (Dr) Sohail Nasti
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump introduced the “Board of Peace,” aiming to establish a lasting peace in Gaza and contribute to its stabilization, reconstruction, and humanitarian relief efforts. While the goal of ending conflict and alleviating human suffering is commendable, concerns have been raised regarding the forum’s structure, membership, and political implications.
An essential aspect of any credible peace initiative is the meaningful inclusion of those directly impacted by the conflict. However, the absence of any recognized representatives of the Palestinian people, including political leaders, civil society voices, or community representatives, raises doubts about the forum’s legitimacy and inclusivity.
Pakistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace has also sparked controversy. While the government has portrayed it as a diplomatic success and a step towards supporting a permanent ceasefire and humanitarian aid in Gaza, critics argue that the move lacks constitutional backing and public consensus. There are speculations about Pakistan potentially deploying military units to Gaza, although official confirmation is yet to be provided.
Critics view the Board of Peace as a politically motivated club that may prioritize strategic or economic interests over genuine conflict resolution. To ensure lasting peace and stability in Gaza and the broader region, key principles such as inclusive representation, legitimacy, and domestic consensus must be upheld.
As global leaders contemplate ways to support peace in Gaza, it is crucial to engage in a transparent, consultative process that includes all stakeholders and adheres to international law and multilateral institutions. Only through such an approach can the international community contribute meaningfully to achieving a just and enduring peace.
