Pre-Budget Consultations for Budget Session 2026–27 in Jammu and Kashmir
In preparation for the upcoming Budget Session 2026–27, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir engaged in pre-budget consultations with Members of the Legislative Assembly from South and North Kashmir districts at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by various dignitaries including Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javaid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma, as well as senior officials from the Finance Department and concerned districts.
Legislators from South Kashmir districts such as Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian presented proposals focusing on infrastructure development and welfare initiatives. Similarly, MLAs from North Kashmir districts including Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora put forward their demands for budgetary allocations for developmental projects and public welfare schemes.
The legislators highlighted the need for increased allocations in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, and road infrastructure. They also emphasized the importance of youth-centric initiatives, sports facilities, and employment generation programs.
Furthermore, the legislators stressed the significance of climate change mitigation measures, public libraries, skill development centers, and timely utilization of funds for developmental projects. They also underlined the potential of tourism in creating sustainable employment opportunities for local youth.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the legislators that their suggestions and proposals would be carefully considered in the upcoming budget. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir.
Overall, the pre-budget consultations aimed to address the priorities of different regions in Jammu and Kashmir and ensure equitable development for all communities.
