Rising Indian Racing Star Atiqa Mir Secures Drive with Modena Racing Team
La Conca (Italy)- Young Indian racing sensation Atiqa Mir has recently announced her collaboration with the reigning world champions, Modena Racing Team, for the upcoming 2026 season of the prestigious WSK championship, often referred to as the ‘Formula 1’ of karting.
Atiqa, at the age of 11, has opted to compete in the fiercely competitive junior category (age 12-14) this season, showcasing her determination to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
Following her remarkable performances in the mini category (age 8-12) last year, Atiqa, who is backed by the Formula 1 Academy, has been signed for the entire season. She is set to participate in the WSK Super Master Series, WSK Euro Series, WSK Final Cup, and other prestigious championships.
Notably, Atiqa will make history as the first Indian female driver to compete in the OKNJ category in WSK, standing out as the sole female contender among a grid of 37 world-class drivers.
The WSK series serves as the highest level of karting, attracting top driving talents and leading kart and engine manufacturers from across the globe.
Designed to nurture young drivers, the WSK series offers a platform for participants to enhance their racing skills, technical expertise, and overall understanding of motorsport.
It is worth mentioning that Formula 1 champions such as Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Sebastian Vettel have all honed their skills in the WSK series during their formative years.
Transitioning from the mini to the junior category marks a significant milestone for Atiqa, presenting her with new challenges. With engines boasting 29 bhp and speeds reaching up to 126kmph, Atiqa’s physical endurance and adaptability will be put to the test against some of the best drivers in the world.
Expressing her excitement, Atiqa stated, “I am thrilled and grateful to have signed with Modena Racing Team. Joining a team of such high caliber and reigning world champions in this category is a tremendous honor. I am prepared to face off against the world’s top drivers and embrace the challenge. The competition in WSK is intense, and the talent level is unmatched. I look forward to learning from my peers and evolving as a driver.”
Atiqa’s father, Asif Mir, India’s first National Karting Champion, emphasized that the decision to fast-track Atiqa into the junior class was deliberate.
He mentioned, “We are pushing Atiqa to compete at a higher level right from the start. This approach is crucial for her development as a driver. While she could have continued to excel in the Mini category and secure victories, our ultimate goal is Formula 1, and her progress is paramount. Atiqa possesses the physical fitness required to withstand the increased G Forces. I anticipate a challenging yet rewarding learning experience for her.”
Atiqa is set to kick off her campaign on January 25 with the first round of the WSK Super Master Series in La Conca, Italy.
