Review of Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme in Jammu and Kashmir
In a recent meeting, Labour Commissioner J&K, Charandeep Singh, conducted a thorough review of the implementation and progress of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) scheme with all Assistant Labour Commissioners (ALCs) of the Union Territory.
The review highlighted that a total of 85,954 unorganised workers have been successfully registered under the PM-SYM scheme in J&K. The Labour Commissioner emphasized the need for continuous efforts to expedite the registration process, focusing on intensified field-level activities.
Charandeep Singh urged all ALCs to maintain momentum in the registration drive and enhance awareness through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities, awareness camps, and direct engagement with unorganised workers.
Emphasizing the significance of inter-departmental coordination, he directed officials to collaborate with other line departments and key stakeholders to ensure broader coverage of eligible beneficiaries, ensuring that every unorganised worker in the Union Territory benefits from the scheme.
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) is a crucial social security initiative by the Government of India, designed to provide old-age protection to unorganised workers. Eligible workers aged between 18 and 40 years can enroll by making a nominal monthly contribution, matched by an equal contribution from the Central Government. Upon reaching the age of 60, beneficiaries are entitled to a minimum assured pension of Rs 3,000 per month.
