Jammu Division of Northern Railway Boosts Freight Movement with Successful Transport of Rice Rake
The Jammu Division of Northern Railway recently achieved a significant milestone by successfully transporting a 42-BCN goods rake loaded with rice from Sangrur in Punjab to Anantnag within a record time of 24 hours. This accomplishment has greatly enhanced freight movement in the valley, as confirmed by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu, Uchit Singhal.
Singhal described the arrival of the full rake of food grain wagons from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) as a “historic moment” for Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the successful operation of the first 42-BCN rake will bolster regional logistics capacity and improve the availability of essential commodities for both traders and the general public.
Looking ahead, Singhal highlighted the pivotal role that FCI food grain trains operated by the railways will play in laying a strong foundation for the economy. He expressed confidence that such initiatives will significantly enhance the grain supply chain and distribution network in the valley.
Public Relations Inspector of Jammu Division, Raghvender Singh, shared details of a previous food grain goods train that arrived at Anantnag Goods Terminal from Ajitwal Goods Shed in December, carrying approximately 1384 tons of weight. Strengthening the food supply chain further, a full rake of rice weighing 2768 tons was loaded from Sangrur Goods Shed of Ambala division and reached its destination within 24 hours, demonstrating the efficiency of rail transport over road transport.
Singh emphasized that the partnership between the railways and FCI has led to the initiation of this food grain goods train service for Kashmir, marking a significant step towards enhancing transportation and supply chain efficiency in the region.
Overall, the successful transportation of the rice rake by Northern Railway’s Jammu Division signifies a major breakthrough in boosting freight movement and strengthening logistical capabilities in the valley, paving the way for improved accessibility to essential commodities and driving economic growth.
