J&K BOPEE Notifies Physical Round of Counseling for 50 MBBS Seats
Recently, the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) has announced a significant development by notifying a physical round of counseling for 50 supernumerary MBBS seats. These seats are specifically allocated for students who lost their seats due to the de-recognition of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Medical College earlier this month.
The decision to conduct this counseling session aims to provide a fair opportunity to affected students to secure admissions in various Government Medical Colleges across J&K. This initiative is in compliance with directives from the Health & Medical Education Department and a communication from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
As per the latest notification issued by BOPEE, candidates who were initially allotted provisional seats at SMVDIME Katra through notifications dated October 25, 2025 (No. 157-BOPEE), November 18, 2025 (No. 170-BOPEE), and December 22, 2025 (No. 216-BOPEE) are now eligible to participate in the counseling process for seat allotment.
The creation of these 50 additional supernumerary seats is a crucial step to ensure that students’ academic progress is not disrupted. The counseling session is scheduled to take place on January 24, 2026 (Saturday) starting at 10:00 A.M. at the BOPEE offices in Jammu/Srinagar. Participants are required to physically report between 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. for attendance and registration.
Notably, seven seats each have been allocated in Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of Baramulla, Doda, Handwara, Kathua, Rajouri, and Udhampur, while an additional eight seats have been earmarked in GMC Anantnag.
