Jammu to Conduct House Listing Operations for Census 2027
House Listing Operations (HLO) in Jammu and Kashmir are set to take place from June 1 to 30 in preparation for the upcoming census. Self-enumeration will begin 15 days prior to the field operations, as announced by officials on Wednesday.
The schedule was finalized during a meeting of the Union Territory Level Census Coordination Committee chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo. The government is expected to issue the necessary notification by January 31.
To assist in the self-enumeration process, technical assistants and charge officials will be available to provide guidance to the public in the days leading up to the field operations.
During the committee meeting, Director of Census Operations, J-K and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, presented an overview of Census 2027. This upcoming census will be India’s first fully digital census, featuring innovations such as the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), self-enumeration, and caste enumeration.
The detailed timeline for census activities, including training, self-enumeration, house listing, and population enumeration, was discussed during the meeting. The importance of efficient field-level implementation was emphasized, leading to the quick hiring of manpower for Census 2027 at various levels.
Deputy commissioners were tasked with forming District Level Census Cells and appointing officers for coordination, training, and supervision. The timely identification of master trainers, supervisors, and enumerators was also stressed.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo highlighted the need for close collaboration between the administration and the census directorate. He urged all deputy commissioners to provide full support to ensure a smooth, accurate, and timely census process, ensuring the government’s full cooperation for the successful completion of the exercise.
