Jammu and Kashmir to Conduct House Listing Operations in June
In a recent announcement, officials revealed that House Listing Operations (HLO) will be carried out throughout Jammu and Kashmir from June 1 to 30 as part of the upcoming census activities. Self-enumeration is set to begin 15 days prior to the field operations.
The Union Territory Level Census Coordination Committee, led by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, finalized the schedule during a meeting held in Jammu. The government is expected to issue the necessary notification by January 31 to kickstart the process.
To ensure a seamless self-enumeration process, technical assistants and charge officials will be on hand to assist the public in the two weeks leading up to the field operations.
During the meeting, Director Census Operations, J-K and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, presented an overview of Census 2027, India’s first fully digital census. Key features such as the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), self-enumeration by citizens, and caste enumeration were highlighted as major innovations.
The presentation also outlined the sequence of census activities, including training, house listing, and population enumeration, along with their respective timelines. The meeting emphasized the importance of hiring manpower for census 2027 promptly at the UT, district, and charge levels.
Deputy commissioners were instructed to establish District Level Census Cells and appoint officers for coordination, training, and supervision. They were also tasked with identifying master trainers, supervisors, and enumerators in a timely manner.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo stressed the significance of close coordination between the administration and the census directorate. He urged all deputy commissioners to provide full support to ensure a smooth, accurate, and timely census process, assuring the government’s complete cooperation for the successful completion of the exercise.
