Srinagar District Level Committee Meeting on Narco Coordination Centre
A meeting of the District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo in Srinagar. The meeting, held at the DC Office Meeting Hall, aimed to assess the enforcement actions and preventive measures taken by various departments in the district to combat the drug menace and enhance deterrence against drug peddlers.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chakravarthy, also participated in the meeting to discuss strategies and initiatives.
Review and Focus Areas
During the meeting, a thorough review of the district’s performance in 2025 was conducted, focusing on identifying challenges in combating drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and pinpointing drug hotspots, vulnerable areas, and transit routes. The assessment also included financial investigations related to drugs, prevention of pharmaceutical drug diversion, coordination among agencies, intelligence sharing, and increased scrutiny of parcels and consignments.
Role of Departments
The Social Welfare, School education, and Colleges were urged to play a crucial role in Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. The Health Department’s responsibilities, including de-addiction centers, counseling facilities, and rehabilitation programs, were also discussed.
Community Involvement
The meeting emphasized the active participation of educational institutions and religious leaders in awareness campaigns and community interventions to combat drug abuse effectively.

Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of a coordinated approach involving all stakeholders, combining enforcement actions with preventive measures, awareness drives, and rehabilitation support to tackle the drug problem effectively. He called for increased IEC activities and community engagement to make Srinagar a drug-free zone.
SSP Srinagar highlighted the significance of intelligence-driven policing and inter-agency coordination in dismantling drug networks. He emphasized strict actions against drug peddlers through financial investigations, asset forfeiture, and monitoring of transit routes.
