Former CM Farooq Abdullah Criticizes Idea of Separate Divisions for Chenab and Pir Panchal Regions
After PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti suggested the creation of separate divisions for the Chenab and Pir Panchal regions, former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah expressed his disapproval, labeling the idea as a Dixon Plan.
Speaking to reporters, the NC president emphasized that the proposal resembled the Dixon Plan, an old concept that involved dividing the region based on the Chenab river. This plan aimed at establishing a Greater Kashmir Valley on one side of the river, segregating the area accordingly.
Farooq Abdullah reiterated the NC’s stance against the separation of Ladakh from Jammu & Kashmir, highlighting the lack of benefits for the Ladakhis following the division. He noted that the people of Ladakh are now expressing a desire for reunification and are questioning the benefits of their current Union Territory status.
Addressing concerns about potential attempts to dismantle the state, Abdullah emphasized that despite various factions seeking to break the unity of Jammu & Kashmir, their efforts will not succeed in achieving their goals. He reaffirmed the resilience and unity of the region in the face of such challenges.
It is crucial to understand the historical context and implications of proposals like the creation of separate divisions, as they have far-reaching consequences for the region’s identity and integrity. Abdullah’s remarks shed light on the complexities and nuances of such political decisions, urging stakeholders to consider the broader implications before implementing any significant changes.
