During the three-day 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) in Lucknow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of respecting differing viewpoints and criticism with dignity in legislatures. He emphasized the role of technology in enhancing transparency in legislative and democratic processes.
PM Modi stated that the AIPOC serves as a valuable platform for Presiding Officers of Parliament and State legislatures to exchange perspectives and experiences on legislative practices and Constitutional values. He commended the event for providing an opportunity to discuss concerns, best practices, and initiatives aimed at improving legislative efficiency and democratic processes.
Recognizing the impact of technology in the digital age, PM Modi praised its role as a force multiplier in strengthening transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centric legislative processes. PM Modi expressed his hope that the discussions at the Conference would enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Presiding Officers in elevating the quality of debates and discussions in legislative bodies. He highlighted the historical significance of AIPOC, noting its evolution since its inception in 1921 and the recent 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) hosted by India.
