Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation Delegation Visits Uri
On January 18, a delegation from the Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) made a significant visit to Uri. Led by KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan, the delegation engaged in detailed discussions with the Traders Federation Uri to address the challenges faced by the local business community, particularly the impending displacement of shops and persistent power shortages.
During the meeting, Haji Mohammad Shafi, President of Traders Federation Uri, provided a comprehensive overview of the issues affecting traders and shopkeepers in the region. One pressing concern highlighted by Mohammad Shafi was the ongoing road widening project, which is expected to displace approximately 31 shops. He emphasized the urgent need for a clear rehabilitation and resettlement plan to protect the livelihoods of affected traders.
Furthermore, Mohammad Shafi stressed the importance of expediting the road widening work to minimize disruptions to business activities, traffic flow, and daily life in the market area. Delays in the project have already resulted in significant losses for traders.
Another critical issue raised during the discussions was the inadequate power supply in Uri. The Traders Federation Uri requested an increase in electricity supply to meet the growing demands of commercial establishments, especially considering the harsh weather conditions and reliance on electrical appliances.
Aside from formal talks, KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan personally interacted with numerous local traders and shopkeepers to understand their grievances, concerns, and suggestions. By listening to their experiences firsthand, KTMF aims to advocate for the resolution of genuine demands from the trading community.
In his address to the gathering, Mohammad Yaseen Khan assured the Uri trading community that KTMF is fully committed to addressing the challenges posed by the road widening project, ensuring the rehabilitation of affected shops, expediting project execution, and improving power supply. He emphasized that no development project should jeopardize the survival of traders, reaffirming KTMF’s dedication to safeguarding the interests of the business community.
KTMF highlighted that the visit to Uri is part of its ongoing outreach program to engage with affiliated market bodies, understand grassroots challenges, and advocate for the concerns of traders across all districts, particularly in remote and border areas, to the relevant authorities.
