Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha emphasizes the importance of keeping politics out of sports to foster a peaceful and transparent environment for nurturing talent and building India as a strong sporting nation. He made these remarks at the inauguration of the two-day National Level Sports Conference – SRIJAN, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in Jammu.
During his address, Lt. Governor Sinha stressed the integration of sports with education and essential life skills, highlighting sports as a powerful tool for the holistic development of youth. He mentioned that sports play a significant role in shaping individuals, bringing communities together, and contributing to nation-building.
The Lt. Governor underscored the social impact of sports, stating that it serves as a medium for empowerment, social awareness, and overall societal progress. He emphasized the need for a peaceful environment for sporting talent to flourish and cautioned against political interference in sports, advocating for a transparent selection process.
Furthermore, Lt. Governor Sinha reiterated the administration’s commitment to supporting sportspersons and developing state-of-the-art sports infrastructure at the grassroots level. He emphasized the importance of increasing the participation of women and youth in sports and addressing barriers that hinder their involvement.
Calling upon policymakers and industry leaders to create new opportunities through sports, Lt. Governor Sinha emphasized that investing in sports is an investment in disciplined citizens and a confident future. He encouraged integrating sports into daily community life and connecting it closely with education and life skills to build a strong sports culture.
The Lt. Governor commended the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, for its efforts in advancing the national sports agenda and urged sports councils, federations, administrators, and officials to develop strategic plans for improving performance at international competitions.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Commissioner Secretary Yasha Mudgal, Padma Shri awardee and Olympian Dr. Karnam Malleswari, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Sports University, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Director General Youth Services and Sports Anuradha Gupta, senior officials, representatives of the Sports Authority of India, eminent sports personalities, experts, and youth in large numbers.
