Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Emphasizes the Need for Universities 2.0

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the importance of moving towards “Universities 2.0,” urging higher education institutions to expand their focus beyond traditional degrees. Sinha called for campuses to become hubs of innovation, creative solutions, and social change.
During the 89th meeting of the University Council of the University of Jammu, Sinha stressed the role of universities in tackling real-world challenges and societal needs. He emphasized the need for universities to lead innovation, skill-building, and problem-solving efforts.
Sinha underscored the importance of revising academic curricula regularly to include cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence. The meeting was attended by various dignitaries including Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Masood Itoo and Vice Chancellors of the University of Jammu and University of Kashmir.
The University Council approved several agenda items aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and University Grants Commission guidelines. These included strategic action plans, new academic programs, and initiatives for cultural and regional studies.
Sinha directed the University of Jammu to collaborate with financial institutions to enhance student employability and promote local cultural heritage studies. He also emphasized the importance of research coordination and the establishment of animal welfare clubs.
Further discussions focused on developing early warning systems for natural disasters, enhancing research capabilities, and increasing youth participation in relevant programs. The Council reviewed progress reports and discussed ways to improve teaching, learning, and research quality.
In a separate event, Sinha highlighted the role of artists and Gen Z entrepreneurs in shaping India’s future. He emphasized the power of the alliance between art and business in driving societal development and progress.
Artists were praised for their contribution to creativity and innovation, with Sinha emphasizing the need for creative thinking in today’s era of artificial intelligence. He called for a convergence of creativity and leadership to spur national growth.
Sinha commended IIM Jammu for integrating creativity with management education and creating a platform for artists and students to showcase their talents. The event was attended by various renowned personalities, educators, and students.
