Bangladesh Cricketers End Boycott and Resume BPL T20 Matches
After a brief boycott, Bangladesh’s cricketers have decided to resume playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 matches. This decision was made in the best interest of the game, following discussions between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Cricketers’ Welfare Association.
The BCB faced a potential crisis when senior national players expressed their discontent with director Najmul Islam’s derogatory remarks towards them. In response, Najmul was removed as the head of the finance committee, a move that helped diffuse the situation temporarily.
President of the Cricketers’ Welfare Association, Mohammad Mithun, acknowledged that compromises were made for the players’ benefit. He assured that the BCB has committed to addressing the players’ demands promptly.
Following the resolution of the conflict, the BPL T20 matches, including the ones that were postponed earlier, resumed on Friday. The ongoing match between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express signifies a return to normalcy.
The turmoil began after Najmul’s controversial statements regarding the players’ remuneration and Bangladesh’s refusal to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India due to security concerns. The CWAB demanded Najmul’s removal from the BCB, leading to his dismissal from the key position.
Despite ongoing discussions with the ICC regarding the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh remains firm on its decision not to tour India. The situation escalated further when Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the IPL, further exacerbating tensions between the BCB and the players.
