Former PDP Leader Naeem Akhter Raises Concerns About Government’s Actions Towards Mosques
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Naeem Akhter expressed strong reservations about recent government actions that he believes infringe upon religious freedom. Akhter highlighted that recent steps involving mosques and religious institutions are perceived as an attack on the right of Muslims to freely practice their religion.
Akhter emphasized that mosques are not merely places of worship but also serve as important social spaces where communities come together to discuss societal issues. He underscored the sacred nature of mosques and the role they play in fostering community cohesion and problem-solving.
Questioning the necessity of the government’s intervention in mosque affairs, Akhter called for a reconsideration of such measures. He stressed that the voluntary donations collected in mosques, particularly on Fridays, should not be used to instill fear or exert pressure on individuals.
Expressing concerns about the impact of continued interference on mosque management, Akhter warned that such actions could deter people from taking up caretaking roles within mosques. He urged the government to reassess its approach to prevent a scenario where mosques are left without administrators.
Addressing Vacancies and Additional Responsibilities in Bandipora District
Akhter also highlighted issues related to vacancies and additional responsibilities within the administration of Bandipora district. He pointed out that a significant number of officers in the district collectorate were shouldering additional duties, while key positions remained unfilled.
Notably, the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner had been vacant for approximately a year, and even the medical superintendent was handling additional responsibilities. Akhter expressed concern over the negative impact of these vacancies on essential services and development work in the district.
He called on the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to fill the vacant positions, stressing that delays in appointments were hampering effective delivery of healthcare, education, and other vital services to the community.
