Senior Superintendent of Police at the Cyber Investigation Centre for Excellence in Srinagar, Ramesh Gupta, highlighted the critical role of public awareness in stopping cyber frauds. He emphasized that timely reporting is key to recovering defrauded funds.
Stay Alert for Cyber Safety
SSP Gupta emphasized that awareness is the primary defense against cybercrime. He urged individuals to be cautious when using digital platforms. In 2025, authorities received over 18,000 cyber fraud complaints nationwide, with cases reported from Jammu and Kashmir.
In Jammu and Kashmir alone, cyber fraud cases totaling Rs 184.91 crore were reported, with Rs 32.64 crore successfully recovered. SSP Gupta credited the swift recovery to victims’ prompt reporting, stressing the importance of immediate action after a cyber fraud incident.
Victims are advised to report cyber frauds without delay by dialing helpline number 1930. SSP Gupta warned against downloading apps or clicking links from unknown sources, as they can lead to financial loss and data compromise. He also suggested safeguarding important documents to prevent misuse.
