Ghulam Hassan Sheikh Assumes Office as Chairman of J&K Board of School Education
On January 14, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh officially took on the role of Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) following a government order. After assuming his position, Sheikh wasted no time in convening a meeting to outline the organization’s goals.
During the meeting, Sheikh emphasized the importance of collaboration among all sections of the organization to meet the expectations of stakeholders and ensure the implementation of academic standards. He stressed the need for transparency, efficiency, and credibility in both academic and administrative processes within the Board.
Sheikh expressed his commitment to student-centric policies that prioritize the seamless delivery of services, including timely examination conduct, result declaration, and book distribution. His leadership was warmly welcomed by the officers and officials of JKBOSE, who expressed optimism about the organization’s future under his guidance.
It is worth noting that the position of Chairman of JKBOSE had been vacant for a year following the expiration of the former chairman’s two-year tenure in January 2025. Prior to Sheikh’s appointment, the role had been temporarily managed by the former Financial Commissioner of the JK Higher Education Department, who retired in December 2025.
In response to the vacancy, the government temporarily assigned the additional responsibility to Secretary JKBOSE until further instructions were provided. This interim arrangement was made in accordance with the powers conferred by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education Act, 1975.
With Sheikh at the helm, there is a renewed sense of enthusiasm within JKBOSE for the continued growth and development of the organization. His vision for student-focused policies and commitment to transparency and efficiency bode well for the future of academic excellence in Jammu and Kashmir.
