Crackdown on Social Media Misuse in Kashmir
In a significant development, the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) intensified its efforts to combat social media misuse by executing proclamation orders of the NIA court against three absconding accused involved in “anti-national activity and digital propaganda.” This decisive action underscores the commitment to upholding law and order in the region.
The absconding offenders, namely Mubeen Ahmad Shah, Aziz-ul-Hassan Ashai, and Rifat Wani, are facing charges related to grave offenses that threaten public order, communal harmony, and national integrity. The court’s proclamation order mandates the appearance of the accused within a specified timeframe, failing which their properties will be seized in accordance with the law.
According to a CIK spokesperson, the investigation uncovered a well-orchestrated conspiracy orchestrated by individuals masquerading as journalists, freelancers, and news portal operators. These individuals were found to be running a covert digital warfare campaign through social media platforms like Facebook, X, and WhatsApp, disseminating fake, motivated, and secessionist content to incite violence and disrupt civic life.
The CIK reiterated the importance of preventing the misuse of freedom of expression for propagating anti-national sentiments. The spokesperson warned that individuals or groups engaging in unlawful activities under the guise of journalism or online activism would face stringent legal action.
The CIK’s message is clear – those spreading hatred, misinformation, communal disharmony, or anti-national propaganda through digital platforms will be held accountable. The law will ensure that offenders do not escape justice and that acts endangering peace, unity, and national sovereignty are met with swift and relentless action.
It is imperative to maintain vigilance against those seeking to exploit digital platforms for nefarious purposes, and the CIK is committed to safeguarding the nation’s interests against such threats.
