Supreme Court Halts Declaration of Results for JKCA Elections
The Supreme Court has agreed to address concerns regarding the forthcoming Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) elections. The Court has instructed that the election results should not be disclosed until further notice.
A plea was presented to the bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, who ruled on Thursday to hear the case. The petition called for the appointment of an impartial electoral officer to oversee the electoral process for the JKCA elections, ensuring strict adherence to the association’s constitution.
The Supreme Court has requested a response from the JKCA regarding the petition and scheduled a hearing for February 2.
While allowing the elections to proceed, the Court has emphasized that result announcements should be put on hold for the time being.
The plea, submitted by various cricket clubs, also demands the appointment of a retired Supreme Court judge as the administrator of the JKCA. This administrator would be granted full authority to manage the association’s daily operations, taking over from the current BCCI sub-committee.
Multiple clubs affiliated with the JKCA have raised objections concerning the preparation of electoral rolls for the upcoming elections. Allegations include constitutional violations and the exclusion of 16 clubs from participating in the election process.
