Indian Cricketer Tilak Varma Undergoes Surgery for Groin Issue, Likely to Miss T20 Series Against New Zealand
Indian cricketer Tilak Varma recently underwent surgery for a groin issue that caused him severe pain, putting his participation in the upcoming T20 International series against New Zealand in jeopardy. The 23-year-old batsman complained of acute pain while in Rajkot with the Hyderabad team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy One-day Championship.
According to a BCCI official, Varma was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Testicular Torsion and advised to undergo immediate surgery. The procedure was successful, and Varma is currently on the path to recovery.
Despite the positive outcome of the surgery, Varma is expected to miss the T20 series against New Zealand, which is set to begin on January 21 in Nagpur. His participation in the initial matches of the T20 World Cup next month also remains uncertain.
The T20 World Cup, scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will kick off on February 7 with India facing the USA in Mumbai. The Indian team will play their second match on February 12 against Namibia in Delhi.
