Enhancing Forest Management: Review Meeting in Kashmir Division
In a significant development, Minister Javed Ahmed Rana presided over a crucial review meeting on Wednesday to evaluate the operational efficiency and performance of the Territorial Forest Department in the picturesque Kashmir Division.
The meeting witnessed the presence of key officials including Irfan Rasool Wani, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir; Irfan Shah, Conservator of Forests, North Circle; and Dr. Nadeem, Conservator of Forests, South Circle, alongside other senior departmental officers.
During the comprehensive review, the Minister delved into crucial aspects such as firewood availability, afforestation progress, timber supply, SASCI projects implementation, Eco Parks development, and timber marking, among others.
Noteworthy progress was highlighted during the discussions, with the department achieving around 53% physical progress under the SASCI projects. Remaining works are on track for completion by March this year.
On the public service front, it was disclosed that nearly 60,000 quintals of firewood have been supplied against the approved target of 80,000 quintals, with the rest expected by March to meet winter demands.
Furthermore, significant timber supply under the Kashmir Notice Timber mechanism was reported, benefiting numerous beneficiaries. Both Forest Circles successfully completed timber marking, ensuring efficient extraction by the Forest Development Corporation.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress, Minister Rana urged officers to expedite ongoing works and adhere strictly to timelines. Emphasis was placed on demand-driven firewood availability and efficient departmental functioning.
Timely target achievements and improved service delivery were highlighted, with a focus on responsiveness to public needs, especially during challenging winter conditions.
