High-Level Security Review Meeting on Jammu & Kashmir
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, is set to lead a crucial security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting will be attended by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officers of the J&K Police, civil administration, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, and top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This meeting marks the first major security review for the Union Territory in 2026. It comes at a time when security forces have intensified joint operations in the mountainous and remote areas of the Jammu region to track down terrorists, including foreign militants.
Key agenda items for the meeting include discussions on strategies to eliminate terrorists hiding in challenging and inaccessible terrain, bolstering counter-terror mechanisms, and ensuring zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), among other security-related issues.
Attendees
Expected attendees at the meeting include Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Intelligence Chief Nitish Kumar, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, as well as heads of CAPFs and intelligence agencies.
Senior officers are likely to provide updates to the Home Minister on winter security preparedness, measures to prevent infiltration, and recent anti-terror operations. Recent encounters with terrorists in Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, and other districts have been highlighted, along with successful foiling of infiltration attempts along the LoC and IB.
Intelligence reports suggest that terrorists are waiting on both sides of the LoC and IB, seeking to infiltrate with the assistance of Pakistan-based handlers, including the Pakistan Army and the ISI.
This high-level security review meeting signifies the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region and its residents. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of this critical discussion.
