Jammu Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP and Sangharsh Samiti Over Protests Against MBBS Admissions
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his displeasure towards the BJP and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti for their protests against MBBS admissions at the SMVD Institute of Medical Excellence. He emphasized that the students admitted to the institution have earned their seats through merit and hard work, not through any form of favoritism.
Omar Abdullah condemned the protests in Jammu, labeling them as unjustified and dangerous. He questioned the motives behind the agitation, stating that the students should not be subjected to such hostility after working diligently to secure their medical seats. He suggested that if the protesters do not want these students at the institute, alternative arrangements should be made for their education elsewhere.
Speaking from a parental perspective, Omar Abdullah expressed his reluctance to enroll his child in an institution where politics and animosity overshadow academic pursuits. He urged the Government of India and the Health Ministry to consider relocating the students to other medical colleges, emphasizing the importance of preserving education from political and religious influences.
The Chief Minister took a firm stance against the situation, advocating for the closure of the medical college if politics continue to interfere with the students’ academic environment. He criticized the BJP for causing chaos in Ladakh and warned against similar actions in Jammu, emphasizing the need to prioritize the well-being of Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah accused the BJP of injecting religion into various aspects of governance, including education, sports, and health. He criticized the party’s agenda and cautioned against further religious polarization in the region. On the issue of reservation, the Chief Minister redirected inquiries to the Lieutenant Governor, highlighting the complexities surrounding the Cabinet Sub Committee report.
Restoration of full statehood was highlighted as a significant challenge by Omar Abdullah, who acknowledged the difficulties in conducting the budget session under current circumstances. He refrained from commenting on the regularization of daily wagers, citing the need for further discussion during the budget session.
In a separate context, Omar Abdullah defended Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rehman, asserting that his removal from the IPL was not a decision made by the team but rather a consequence of external circumstances. He urged parties with grievances against Bangladesh to address them through proper channels without involving individuals in political controversies.
