Microblogging Platform X Takes Strong Action Against Illegal Content
In a recent statement, the Elon Musk-owned microblogging site X announced its commitment to combatting illegal content by permanently suspending accounts that upload such material, removing the content, and collaborating with local authorities when necessary. This decision comes in response to concerns about the proliferation of inappropriate and unlawful content on social media platforms.
The Global Government Affairs account of X emphasized the platform’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal content, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). This stance was reiterated by Musk himself, who stated that individuals using X’s AI service, Grok, to create illegal content will face the same consequences as those who upload such material directly.
Furthermore, X’s Global Government Affairs handle underscored the platform’s guidelines regarding the sharing of adult nudity or sexual behavior, highlighting the importance of proper labeling and discretion in such content dissemination.
The Indian government has raised concerns about the presence of vulgar, obscene, and unlawful content on X, prompting regulatory action from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity). Meity directed X to promptly remove objectionable content, particularly that generated by the Grok AI app, or face legal repercussions.
Notably, Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi urged Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to address the misuse of the Grok AI service, which has been exploited to create and share derogatory images of women on social media.
Meity’s advisory to social media firms, including X, to enhance their compliance framework and crack down on obscene and unlawful content reflects the government’s commitment to upholding decency and legal standards on digital platforms.
As social media companies face increasing scrutiny over their content moderation practices, X is taking proactive measures to address illegal content and uphold community standards. The platform’s cooperation with local authorities and strict enforcement of rules underscore its commitment to creating a safe and responsible online environment.
